Shangli County, subordinate to Pingxiang City of Jiangxi Province, is located in the west of Jiangxi Province, north of Pingxiang City, adjacent to Yichun City and Luxi County in the east, Anduan Economic Development Zone and Xiangdong District in the south, Liling City of Hunan Province in the west and Liuyang City in the north. The total area is 702 square kilometers. Shangli County has jurisdiction over 6 towns and 4 townships. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Shangli County was 469,957.

Shangli County is home to the inventor of firecrackers Li Tian, the talented man Liu Fenggao, the historian Li Yutang, and the first secretary of Jiangxi Provincial Party Committee Zhang Guoshu. Shangli is the hometown of Chinese fireworks, the hometown of Chinese Nuo culture, the hometown of Chinese folk art, the hometown of Chinese modern folk painting, and the forest City of Jiangxi Province. In March 2019, it was identified as the first batch of counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics.
In 2019, the GDP of Shangli County reached 16.337.64 million yuan. On February 13, 2020, it won the title of "Safe Agricultural Machinery" Demonstration County in 2019.
