Dayu, known as Nan 'an in ancient times, belongs to Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province. Located at the intersection of Jiangxi, Guangdong and Hunan provinces, Dayu is the "south gate" of Jiangxi. It covers an area of 1368 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 8 towns and 3 townships. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Dayu County was 264,995.

Dayu County was the origin of Neo-Confucianism of Zhou Cheng in Song Dynasty. Scenic spots and historic sites include Meiyou Pass and the ancient Post Road built in Tang and Song dynasties, Lingyan Temple on Yashan Mountain in Southern Tang Dynasty, Pagoda of Song Jiayou Temple and Peony Pavilion of Song Dynasty, among which Pagoda of Jiayyou Temple, Meiguan Pass and ancient Post Road are listed as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

In December 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of the country's rural governance system. In June 2020, it was selected into the list of national Forest health Bases (the first batch). On June 30, 2020, it was selected into the "second batch of revolutionary Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization piece list of counties". On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the national Health township (county) naming list for the 2017-2019 cycle.
By the end of 2019, the GDP of the region was about 10.557 billion yuan, and the total fiscal revenue was about 1.37 billion yuan.
