Poyang County, subordinate to Shangrao City of Jiangxi Province, is located in the northeast of Jiangxi Province and on the east bank of Poyang Lake. It borders Pengze County and Dongzhi County of Anhui Province on the north, Yugan County and Wanian County on the south, Changjiang District, Fuliang County and Leping City of Jingdezhen on the east, and Duchang County on the northwest. The county covers an area of 4215 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of 14 towns, 15 townships, 1 street, 2 reservoir management bureau, an agricultural science institute, 545 administrative villages (communities). By the end of 2021, the total number of registered households in Poyang County was 456,900, with a total population of 1,500,400.

Poyang County is located in the hinterland of "Changjiu" Golden Triangle, and has a reputation of "four great ships and vehicles" and "department stores returning to the market". The county is half an hour away from Jingdezhen, Jiujiang Airport, and Nanchang Changbei Airport by car. The one-hour economic circle has been basically formed. The Le 'an River, Xihe River, Tongjin River and Changjiang River pass through Poyang Lake to reach the Yangtze River. Poyang Port is an important port in Jiangxi Province, and thousand-ton freighters can reach the Yangtze River directly.
In 2021, the GDP of Poyang County was 29.314 billion yuan, an increase of 9% over 2020; Total revenue reached 2.413 billion yuan, an increase of 16.7 percent over 2020.
