Located in the south of the northwest Plain of Shandong Province, Jiyang District is a suburb of Jinan, facing Licheng District, Zhangqiu District and Zouping City of Binzhou City across the Yellow River, bordering Huimin County and Shanghe County in the northeast and north, connecting with Linyi County and Qihe County of Dezhou City in the northwest and west, and adjacent to Tianqiao District in the southwest. Between latitude 36°41' and 37°15' north and longitude 116°52' and 117°27' east, it covers an area of 1076 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 8 subdistricts and 2 towns. As of June 2021, the population of Jiyang District is 568,800.
Jiyang District has a long history. There are 20 ancient cultural sites such as Western Zhou Dynasty noble tombs, Jade Emperor Tombs, and Confucius Wenshaotai ruins. The black pottery craft and drum Yangko dance have long been famous. The county has flat terrain, wide and fertile land, large reserves of oil, coal, natural gas and geothermal resources. There are oil fields in the north and coal mines in the south, and geothermal resources have been developed and utilized. It has created ten agricultural products brands, such as Renfeng watermelon, Qudi cucumber and Duanshi tomato, and has won the titles of National Advanced County in grain production and National Advanced County in vegetable industry.
In 2021, Jiyang District achieved a gross regional product (GDP) of 22.39 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 3.82 billion yuan, the secondary industry was 10.39 billion yuan, and the tertiary industry was 8.17 billion yuan.
