Liuyang City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, is under the administration of Changsha City. It is named because the county is located in the north of Liushui (Yangxian). Liuyang is located in the border of Hunan and Jiangxi, north of the eastern part of Hunan. In ancient times, Liuyang was the "throat of Wu and Chu". It is the sub-center of the provincial capital Changsha and the regional central city of Hunan and Jiangxi. Liuyang covers an area of 5007.75 square kilometers. It is 62 kilometers away from Changsha Municipal Government and 42 kilometers away from Changsha Huanghua International Airport.

In the 14th year of Jian 'an of the Eastern Han Dynasty (209), Liuyang County was first established in Linxiang County, and Liuyang County was re-established in the second year of Tang Jinglong (708).
