Chaling County, under Zhuzhou City, is located in the eastern part of Hunan Province. It reaches Changsha in the north, Guangzhou in Nantong, Chenzhou in the west and Jiangxi in the east, covering an area of 2,500 square kilometers. It is located between 113°20 '~113°65' east longitude and 26°30 '~27°7' north latitude. It is a subtropical monsoon humid climate.

Chaling County is the only administrative county named after tea in Chinese history. Because it is located in the "Yin of tea mountain", and the ancestor of the Chinese nation Yan Emperor Shen Nong "collapsed and buried in the tail of the tea town". According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Chaling County was 491,849. In 2020, the GDP of Chaling County reached 22.43 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9%. Of this total, the primary industry reached 3.93 billion yuan, up by 3.3 percent; the secondary industry 7.53 billion yuan, up by 6.1 percent; and the tertiary industry 10.97 billion yuan, up by 2.3 percent. The ratio of tertiary industry structure was 17.5:33.6:48.9, and the contribution rate of tertiary industry to GDP was 11.8%, 59.1% and 29.1%, respectively driving GDP growth by 0.5, 2.3 and 1.1 percentage points. In 2020, Chaling County covers an area of 2,500 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 16 towns (subdistricts).

By the end of 2019, the registered population was 644,500 and the permanent population was 593,600. In August 2018, the Hunan Provincial government approved that Chaling County should lift its poverty cap. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
