Shaoyang County, under the jurisdiction of Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, located in the south of Hunan Province in the west, east adjacent to Shaodong County, Qidong County, south East 'an County, Xinning County, west Wugang City, Longhui County, north to Xinshao County and Shaoyang City. The land area is 2001.01 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Shaoyang County was 752,125.

Shaoyang County, a revolutionary old base area, is the key county of the national poverty alleviation and development work and the key county of the national project to return farmland to forest. The main agricultural products are rice, pepper, citrus, tea oil, peanuts, lily, yellow flower, pig, flue-cured tobacco, etc. Mineral deposits are mainly anthracite, marble, gypsum stone, barite, iron, manganese, antimony and oil shale. On February 29, 2020, the People's Government of Hunan Province agreed to let Shaoyang County quit the poverty-stricken county.

In 2021, the annual GDP of Shaoyang County reached 1,951,068 million yuan.
