Dongxing is under the jurisdiction of county-level cities and Fangchenggang City in charge of county-level cities in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was successively subordinate to Qinlian Special Zone of Guangdong Province (first in Beihai City and then in Qinzhou Town), Qinzhou Special Zone of Guangxi Province (Qinzhou Town and Lianzhou Town where it is governed), Hepu Special Zone of Guangdong Province (Lianzhou Town where it is governed), Qinzhou District of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Qinzhou Town where it is governed). Located in the southwest end of the Chinese mainland coastline, the south of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the west of Fangchenggang City, east, west and north of Fangchenggang City on the border with the city of Fangchenggang, southeast on the Beibu Gulf, southwest and the Communist Republic of Vietnam sea and land connected, and Vietnam Mong Street only a river across the area of 590 square kilometers. In 2020, the GDP of Dongxing City reached 7.824 billion yuan, down 2.9% year on year. On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the fourth batch of national ecological civilization Construction demonstration City and county title by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
