Bama Yao Autonomous County is subordinate to Hechi City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Located in the northwest of Guangxi, Bama is adjacent to Lingyun County, Youjiang District, Tianyang District, Tiandong County, Pingguo City, Dahua Yao Autonomous County, Donglan County, Fengshan County and other cities and counties in Baise from west to north. The county covers a total area of 1,976.42 square kilometers, inhabited by 12 ethnic groups such as Yao, Zhuang and Han. In 2012, Bama County has a total population of 270,000, and the county seat covers an area of 8 square kilometers. The terrain of Bama is high in the northwest and low in the southeast. There are more mountains and less land within the territory. Known as "eight mountains, one water and one field", the land is precious. According to the 7th census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Bama Yao Autonomous County was 236,152.

According to the second to fifth national censuses, Bama has the highest proportion of centenarians in all five regions of the world. It is known as "the home of longevity in the world and the Holy Land of Chinese people". Bama is the "hometown of China's fragrant pigs". In 2005, the Bama pig was protected as a National Geographic Indication product.
In 2020, the GDP of Bama County was 8.299 billion yuan, an increase of 8.5% year on year.

In March 2019, it was listed among the first batch of counties under protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. On September 20, 2019, it was awarded the honorary title of National Model Unit of greening. On May 9, 2020, it was approved by the People's Government of Guangxi Autonomous Region to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county list. In June 2020, the Rule of Law Commission of the CPC Central Committee selected it into the list of the first batch of national demonstration areas and projects for building a law-based government. On July 29, 2020, it was selected into the national Health township (county) naming list for the 2017-2019 cycle. In December 2020, it was named the 2019 Advanced County of high-quality development in Guangxi by the autonomous region.
