Wuzhishan City, a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Hainan Province, is located in the hinterland of Wuzhishan Mountain in the central and southern part of Hainan Island. Its geographical coordinates are between 18°38' -- 19°02' north latitude and 109°19' -- 109°44' east longitude. It covers an area of 1144.28 square kilometers. The predecessor of Wuzhishan City was Tongshi (county-level), which was established with the approval of The State Council in June 1986. It was renamed Wuzhishan City in July 2001. Wuzhishan City is a central city and transportation hub in the central region of Hainan Island, with Haikou -- Yulin (middle) Highway (G224), S313 (Maojiu Line) and other provincial highways passing through it.
