Santai County, also known as Zizhou and Tongchuan, belongs to Mianyang City, Sichuan Province, located in the north-west-central Sichuan Basin, southeast of Mianyang City. It borders Yanting County, Mianyang City on the east, Shehong City on the south, Zhongjiang County on the west, Fucheng District, Mianyang City on the north, 36 km from Mianyang City, 100 km from Suining City and 107 km from Chengdu City.
Santai covers an area of 2,659 square kilometers. It is one of the largest agricultural counties in Sichuan with a population of more than one million. It has 11 ethnic groups, including Han, Hui, Tibetan, Qiang, Yi, Manchu, Bai, Tu, Uygur, Mongolian and Miao. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Santai County was 955,800.
