Leshan, known as Jiazhou in ancient times, is a prefection-level city in Sichuan Province. It is located in the central part of Sichuan Province and the southwest part of Sichuan Basin. The terrain is high in the southwest and low in the northeast. Jurisdiction over 4 districts, 6 counties, in charge of 1 county-level city, the total area of the city 12720.03 square kilometers; By the end of 2021, the city has a permanent resident population of 3.151 million.

Leshan is an important industrial city in Sichuan, a central city in the southern part of Chengdu Economic Zone, an important hub city, an important traffic node and a port city in Chengdu-Chongqing City group. Chengdu-kunming Railway and Chengdu-Guizhou high-speed railway run through the whole country. Leshan three rivers converge, Dadu River, Qingyi River at the foot of Leshan Buddha into the Minjiang River. Leshan is a national historical and cultural city, with the reputation of "The Country of begonia Fragrance". It is one of the first batch of cities open to the outside world, the national greening model city, the Chinese excellent tourism city, the National Garden City and the national Health City. Leshan has three world-class heritage sites -- Mount Emei and Leshan Giant Buddha, the world natural and cultural heritage, and Dongfeng Weir, the world irrigation heritage. In July 2019, it was named a national intellectual property pilot city. On October 20, 2020, it was selected into the national dual-support model city (county) list. In May 2022, it will be incorporated into the planning scope of Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor.
