Jia County is located in the northeast of Shanxi Province, the west bank of the Yellow River, the southern edge of the Mu Us Desert. It faces Linxian County of Shanxi across the Yellow River in the east, Suide County and Wupu County in the south, Mizhi County in the west, Yuyang District in the northwest, Duwei River and Shenmu City in the north, 71 kilometers away from Yulin City. The total land area is 2029.82 square kilometers. County jurisdiction 12 towns 1 sub-district office, 324 administrative villages. There are Baiyun Mountain Temple, incense Temple, Yunyan Temple and other famous landscape. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Jiaxian county was 113,035. In 2020, the GDP of Jia County reached 6.333 billion yuan, an increase of 4.4%.

The territory of proven mineral deposits are: rock salt, coal, natural gas, ceramic clay, sand, stone, etc. 90% of the area within the territory of rock salt is stored, the proven reserves of more than 100 billion tons, the predicted reserves of 800 billion tons, accounting for 13.5% and 11.5% of the city's reserves, respectively. The thickness of salt layer is between 80 ~ 110 meters, buried depth between 2400 ~ 2600 meters, can be called China's "salt valley".

On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 E-commerce into Rural Comprehensive Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Commerce. On October 22, 2018, it was selected into the list of leading areas for the integrated development of primary, secondary and tertiary industries in the country in 2018. In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of counties under the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. On February 27, 2020, Shanxi Provincial People's Government approved and officially withdrew from the poverty-stricken county list.
