Langao County, subordinate to Ankang City of Shanxi Province, is located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, the northern foot of Bashan Mountain and the shore of Han River, adjacent to Chongqing, Pingli County, Ziyang County, Hanbin District of Ankang City and Chengkou County of Chongqing, with a total area of 1,956 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 12 towns.

Langao is located in the transition zone of subtropical monsoon climate and the second selenium-rich resource zone in China. It is a biodiversity ecological function zone of Qinling and Ba Provinces and an important water source conservation area of the Middle Route of the National South-to-North Water Diversion Project. It is also one of the key forestry counties in Shanxi Province, where abundant forestry resources have bred a large number of mountain products with over 400 varieties. Mainly raw lacquer, tea, eucommia ulmoides, black fungus, mushroom, fruit and a variety of wild vegetables, etc. Langao raw lacquer was called "golden lacquer" in the Ming Dynasty, one of the three famous lacquers in the international market. Long 'an Tea is a famous tea in Shanxi Province. "Long 'an Bixuan" was once used as a tribute tea and listed as one of the eight famous teas in the province.

By the end of 2021, Langao County had a registered population of 164,177. In 2021, Langao County achieved a gross regional product (GDP) of 5.504 billion yuan, of which the added value of the primary industry was 1.09633 billion yuan, that of the secondary industry was 2.08701 billion yuan and that of the tertiary industry was 2.316.7 billion yuan.
