Sunan Yugur Autonomous County, a county under the jurisdiction of Zhangye City, Gansu Province, is the only Yugur Autonomous County in the People's Republic of China. It is located in the central part of Gansu Province and the southern part of Zhangye City. It is located in the middle of the Hexi Corridor and the northern foot of the Qilian Mountains. It has a cold and semi-arid climate. The whole region spans five cities in Hexi, bordering 15 counties (cities) in Gansu and Qinghai provinces, with a total area of 20176.7 square kilometers. As of October 2022, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County has jurisdiction over 3 towns, 2 townships, 3 ethnic townships, and 2 town-level units. By the end of 2021, the registered residence population of Sunan Yugur Autonomous County was 14932 households and 39283 people.

Sunan Yugur Autonomous County is named for its location south of Suzhou (Jiuquan). In February 1954, Sunan Yugur Autonomous Region (county level) was established; In May 1955, Sunan Yugur Autonomous Region was changed to "Sunan Yugur Autonomous County". The main scenic spots in Sunan Yugur Autonomous County include the Horseshoe Temple Scenic Spot, Qilianyu Cultural Industrial Park, Wenshu Temple Scenic Spot, Zhangye Binggou Danxia Scenic Spot, Yugur Folk Custom Resort, and China Yugur Style Corridor Scenic Spot. On September 8, 2021, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County was selected as the "pilot list of rooftop distributed photovoltaic development in the whole county (city, district)". On December 29, 2022, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County was selected into the "list of the fifth batch of counties (districts) that meet the standards of water-saving society construction". On January 17, 2023, Sunan Yugur Autonomous County was selected as the "List of National Key Leisure Agriculture Counties in 2022".
