Baoshan City, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Yunnan Province, is located in the southwest of Yunnan Province, bordering Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture and Lincang City in the east, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture in the north, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in the west, and Myanmar in the northwest and due south. Located in the middle of western Yunnan, Baoshan is the only way for China to go to South Asia, Southeast Asia and even Europe. Tengchong is one of the important birthplaces of modern industry and commerce in Yunnan. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south. Most of the territory has a subtropical monsoon climate, rich in lignite reserves and geothermal resources. Baoshan South Silk Road, Yunnan-Myanmar Highway and Stilwell Highway pass through the territory. The main tourist attractions include Tengchong Huoshan Hot Sea, Heshun Ancient Town, Gaoligong Mountain, Lujiangba, Songshan Anti-Japanese War Site, West Yunnan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall, Shanzhou Forest Farm, etc.

Baoshan City is the world's largest coffee-planting base, the country's largest planting base of horseradish, dendrobium, walnut, safflower camellia, and the famous "granary of western Yunnan" in China. In 2017, Baoshan won the title of "China's Most Beautiful Cultural and Ecological Tourism City". In 2018, Baoshan City won the title of National Health City and the second batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties. In 2019, it was rated as an advanced unit of municipal and national grass-roots TCM work by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 2021, Baoshan City will achieve a GDP of 116.554 billion yuan, up 6.1% year-on-year.
