Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, referred to as "Bortala" for short, is subordinate to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. Bozhou is bordered by Kazakhstan, with a 372km long border line. It is an important connection point at home and abroad and a key node for import and export of goods in the "Middle Passage" of the Silk Road Economic Belt. The second Eurasian land bridge runs through the whole territory. The China-Kazakhstan oil pipeline and the second West-East Gas Pipeline pass through the territory, and it is the intersection of two major traffic arteries and two major ports. The 312 national highway and the 219 provincial highway, the Jingyihuo railway and the Wujing-Jingjing double line of the northern Xinjiang railway meet in Bozhou. In December 2019, the National People's Commission named Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture as the "National Demonstration State of National Unity and Progress".
