Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture

Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture (Dehong Prefecture), subordinate to Yunnan Province, is located in the western part of Yunnan Province, covering an area of 11526 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over Mang City, Ruili City, Lianghe County, Yingjiang County, and Longchuan County. The people's government of the prefecture is located in Mang City.

"Dehong" is a transliteration of Dai language, "De" is the lower part, and "Hong" is the Nu River, meaning "the place downstream of the Nu River".

Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture is adjacent to Baoshan City in the east, and surrounded by Myanmar in the north, west and south. Therefore, the local people of these five county-level units are also known as "the five outer counties".

As of 2019, Dehong Prefecture has a permanent resident population of 1.324 million, with the urbanization rate of 47.53%. There are Dai, Jingpo, Han, Lisu, Achang, Deang and other nationalities. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture was 1315709.

In July 1953, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Region was established, and in 1956, Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture was changed. The prefecture people's government is located in Mangshi Town, Mangshi.

In 2020, Dehong Prefecture achieved a GDP of 57.554 billion yuan, up 7.9% from 2019, ranking first in the province.
