Dongying, a prefecture-level city in Shandong Province, has been approved by The State Council as the central city of China's Yellow River Delta and an important oil base in China. October 15, 1983, Dongying City officially listed. Dongying is the hometown of the great ancient military strategist Sun Wu, the birthplace of Shandong's local representative opera Lv Opera and the rise of China's second largest oil industry base Shengli Oilfield. As of 2019, the city has jurisdiction over 3 districts and 2 counties. It covers an area of 8243 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Dongying City was 2,193,518.

Dongying is located in the north of Shandong Province, close to Beijing and Tianjin in the north, and facing Japan and South Korea across the sea in the east.
