Hegang, also known as Coal City, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Heilongjiang Province. It is one of the central cities in northeast Heilongjiang Province approved by The State Council and an important energy industrial city. The city has jurisdiction over 6 municipal districts and 2 counties, with a total area of 14,684 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Hegang was 891,271.
Hegang is located in northeast China and northeast Heilongjiang, facing Russia across Heilongjiang in the north, bordering Jiamusi on the southeast and Lesser Khingan Mountains and Yichun on the west. It is located in the "Golden Triangle" area surrounded by Heilongjiang, Songhua River and Lesser Khingan Mountains.
Hegang is rich in tourism resources, with big Jie River, big forest, big ice and snow, big wetland, big agriculture, big mine, big stone forest, the original ecology is well preserved. Longjiang Three Gorges is one of the top ten tourist attractions in Heilongjiang Province. There are three national primitive forest parks, National Mining geological Park, Heilongjiang Basin Museum, famous mountain tourist towns, Taipinggou Gold Ancient Town, Jinding Mountain Stone Forest, Reed Wetland and other scenic spots. There are "five lakes and one river" waterfront scenic spots in the city. Hegang is the hometown of the Black water Jurchen, the birthplace of the Manchurian royal family and the gathering place of Qing Jin culture.
