Jieyang, also known as "Lingnan Water City", is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, one of the cities in Shantou Chaojie Metropolitan Circle, and is located at the center of the geographical axis of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area and the Haixi Economic Zone. It has jurisdiction over 2 municipal districts, 2 counties and 1 county-level city. The total land area of the city is 5240 square kilometers, and the sea area is 9300 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, the permanent resident population of Jieyang City was 5616800. In 2021, Jieyang will achieve a gross regional product of 226.543 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1% over the previous year.

There are three major water systems in Jieyang: Rongjiang River, Longjiang River and Lianjiang River.
