Shaoxing City, referred to as "Yue" in ancient times, is a prefectural-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, a city in the central area of the Yangtze River Delta and a Type II large city. It is a cultural and ecological tourism city with the characteristics of Jiangnan water town in China approved by The State Council. By 2021, the city has jurisdiction over 3 districts, 1 county and 2 county-level cities with a total area of 8,274.79 square kilometers and a permanent population of 5,337 million.
Shaoxing City is located in East China, the central and northern part of Zhejiang Province and the south bank of Hangzhou Bay. It is the core city of Hangzhou Bay Greater Bay Area and the sub-central city of Hangzhou Metropolitan Area. It is located between 119°53 '03" to 121°13' 38" east longitude and 29°13 '35" to 30°17' 30" north latitude. It is connected to Ningbo in the east, Taizhou and Jinhua in the south, Hangzhou in the west, and Jiaxing across Qiantang River in the north. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with warm and humid weather and distinct four seasons.
