Zhuji, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Zhejiang Province, administered by Shaoxing City, is located in the northeast of central Zhejiang Province, the southwest of Shaoxing City, southeast Zhejiang and northwest Zhejiang hilly junction zone, surrounded by mountains, between the north opening channel basin. It is adjacent to Shengzhou City in the east, Dongyang City, Yiwu City and Pujiang County in the south, Tonglu County and Fuyang District in Hangzhou City in the west, Keqiao District and Xiaoshan District in Hangzhou City in the north. The city covers an area of 2311 square kilometers, and has jurisdiction over 5 subdistricts, 18 towns and 553 villages. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, Zhuji's permanent population is 1,218,100.

Zhuji has a long history and a rich cultural heritage. It is the hometown of the State of Yue, the hometown of Xishi, and the place where King Goujian of Yue planned to restore his state. In the 25 years of the reign of the king of Qin, Zhuji County was set up, belonging to Kuaiji County. Zhuji is the birthplace of Yuyue culture. Zhuji is one of the first pilot areas of Zhejiang high-quality development and construction of common prosperity demonstration zone, the first batch of science and technology city, the first batch of education city in Zhejiang Province, the national comprehensive strength of the top 100 counties and cities, the national green development of the top 100 counties and cities, the national new urbanization quality of the top 100 counties and cities, the national business environment of the top 100 counties. Huanjiang Wuxie Scenic Area, a national scenic spot, is an excellent tourist city in China. In December 2020, the Academy of Social Sciences released "Top 100 County Economic Comprehensive Competitiveness", Zhuji ranked 11th. In 2021, Zhuji was shortlisted in the list of top 100 counties and cities, among which the top 100 counties and cities with comprehensive economic strength ranked 13th.

In 2021, the GDP of Zhuji reached 154.66 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 9.8% and a five-year average annual growth of 6.9%. Total government revenue reached 15.48 billion yuan and general public budget revenue 10.02 billion yuan, up 6.4% and 10.9% year on year respectively, representing annual growth of 6.7% and 8.8% over the past five years. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 77,473 yuan and 46,535 yuan respectively, narrowing the income gap from 1.77 in 2016 to 1.66.
