Baojing County, subordinate to Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, is located in the east side of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the middle part of Wuling Mountains, the northwest of Hunan Province, bordering Jishou City, Huayuan County, Yongshun County, Guzhang County, Longshan County, Chongqing Xiushan Tujia and Miao Autonomous County; Jurisdiction over Qianling, Fuxing, Puong, Maogou, Wild bamboo Ping, Qingshui Ping, Bier, Shuitian River, Bowl Mi Po, Hulu 10 towns and six townships Datuo, Yang Chao, Tuzhan, quicksilver, Qingshui, Ramsha, the county area of 1760.65 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Baojing County was 238,792 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

Baojing is a national-level poverty-stricken county. The Youshui River within Baojing is the mother river of Xiangxi with the most mysterious, characteristic and tourism development prospect. Only in the section from Qianling to Liye River in the county, there are more than 60 scenic spots such as the ruins of Sifang City of Han Dynasty, the stone carving "Tiankai Wenyun", the stone Forest of Jiang Lipstick, the ethnic customs of the Steep Beach, the ecological lake tour of Bowamipo, the Eight King Temples of Shouba Dong, the ancient city of Weijiazhai in the Western Han Dynasty, and the Qin Jane of Liye. Other scenic spots such as Lv Dongshan, Xiaozhaigou and Miaojia side wall also have their own characteristics. In 2020, the GDP of Baojing County was 7.331 billion yuan, a year-on-year growth of 3.5%.

On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 E-commerce into Rural Comprehensive Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Commerce. On February 29, the People's Government of Hunan Province agreed to remove Baojing County from the poverty-stricken county. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of regions with remarkable achievements in 2020 published by Hunan Provincial People's Government.
