Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County, under Mianyang city, Sichuan province. Located in the northwestern Sichuan Basin. Between latitude 31°14 '~32°14' north, longitude 103°44 '~104°42' east to Jiangyou City, south to Anzhou District, west to Maoxian County, north to Songpan, Pingwu County, an area of 3083 square kilometers. It is 42 kilometers away from Mianyang city and 160 kilometers away from the provincial capital Chengdu. It is the only Qiang autonomous county in China. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County was 174,100.

Beichuan County is a national cultural and ecological protection area, "Hometown of Chinese Beige Marble", "Hometown of Chinese Dayu Culture", "Hometown of Qiang Embroidery in China", the fourth civilized County City in Sichuan Province, the first batch of counties for protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics, and the third batch of National Demonstration City and county for ecological civilization construction.

On July 31, 2018, the Sichuan provincial government approved the removal of Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County from the poverty-stricken county list.
In 2019, the county's gross regional product (GDP) reached 7.388 billion yuan, the designated industrial added value increased by 10.2%, the total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 11.2%, the investment in fixed assets increased by 10.7%, and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased by 9.8% and 10.9% respectively.
