Chaoan county/District, a district of Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the southwest of Chaozhou City and the middle and lower reaches of the Han River in the east of Guangdong Province, and is located at 116 ° 22 '- 116 ° 49' E and 23 ° 26 '- 24 ° N. The Tropic of Cancer passes through the southern end of Chao'an District, adjacent to Raoping County in the east, adjacent to Jinping District, Longhu District and Chenghai District of Shantou City in the south and southeast, Jiedong District of Jieyang City in the southwest, and Dapu County and Fengshun County of Meizhou City in the west. The total area of the jurisdiction is 1063.99 square kilometers. By the end of 2021, the total registered residence population of Chao'an District is 1063500.

After the 33rd year of Emperor Qin Shihuang (214 BC), the area of Chao'an County today belongs to Nanhai County. On December 19, 1995, Fengxi Town was separated from Chao'an County and the Fengxi District Management Committee was established. It was transferred from Xiangqiao District to Chihu and Cailong belonged to the Fengxi Management Committee. As of October 2021, Chao'an District has jurisdiction over 16 towns, 3 forest farms and 1 economic development pilot area. The District People's Government is located at Chao'an Avenue, Anbu Town. In August 2019, Chao'an District was selected as a pilot county for the construction of a compact county medical community. On April 14, 2020, Chao'an District was selected as the pilot county for water system connectivity and comprehensive improvement of rural water system in 2020-2021. On July 15, 2021, Chao'an District was selected into the list of the fourth batch of counties (districts) with water-saving society construction standards by the Ministry of Water Resources. On September 8, 2021, Chao'an District was selected into the pilot list of rooftop distributed photovoltaic development in the whole county (city, district) of the Comprehensive Department of the National Energy Administration.

In 2021, Chao'an District will achieve a GDP of 49.607 billion yuan, an increase of 9.0% year on year and an average increase of 5.3% in two years.
