Dafang County, located in the northwest of Guizhou Province, is subordinate to Bijie City, adjacent to Jinsha County in the east, Qianxi City in the south, Qixingguan District in the west, and located in the core of Guizhou Golden Triangle. The county seat is 150 kilometers away from Guiyang, the provincial capital. The total area of the county is 3500.11 square kilometers. The county has 36 towns and villages inhabited by 23 ethnic groups such as Han, Yi, Miao, Bai and Gelao. With rich mineral resources, perfect infrastructure and superior geographical location, it is an important transportation hub and material distribution center in the northwest of Guizhou. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Dafang County was 857,578.

Within Dafang, there are Muog Ancient Town, Shexiang Ancient Town, Longchangping Mountain, Magan Mountain grassland, Muzhai Village, Youshan River, Zhiga Alu Lake, Shexiang Tomb, Kuifeng Pagoda, Geya ancient Post Road, Jihuo Monument, Dadu River Bridge, Qingxu Cave and other tourist attractions.

On September 25, 2018, it was awarded the honorary title of "2018 E-commerce into Rural Comprehensive Demonstration County" by the Ministry of Commerce. On April 24, 2019, the People's Government of Guizhou Province officially approved Dafang County's withdrawal from the poverty-stricken county list. 2020 China Summer leisure top 100 counties and cities.

On July 29, 2020, the National Association of Health Care decided to name Dafang County as the 2017-2019 National Health County. In 2020, the GDP of Dafang County reached 172.49 billion yuan, an increase of 4.7% over the previous year.
