Dangxiong (meaning "chosen pasture" in Tibetan) is a part of the Tibet Autonomous Region, located in the central part of the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, on the border of South and North Tibet, covering an area of 12,300 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, the permanent population of Dangxiongxian was 47,900 as of midnight on Nov 1, 2020.
Dangxiong County is a plateau continental climate, annual precipitation of 481 mm. The annual sunshine duration is 2,881 hours. At 10:18 on December 30, 2019, Yangyi Photovoltaic power Station, the world's highest altitude photovoltaic power station, was connected to the grid successfully.

In 2019, the GDP of Dangxiong County reached 1.809 billion yuan, an increase of 7.9 percent over the previous year based on comparable prices.
In October 2018, the People's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region officially approved the withdrawal of Dangxiong County from poverty. In October 2020, it was rated as the national model city (county) of double support.
