Dazu District (Dazu County) of Chongqing, which is subordinate to Chongqing, has been named after "Dafeng Dazu" since it was built in the first year of Qianyuan era (758) of Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty, and has been 1253 years since 2011. In 2011, due to the adjustment of some administrative divisions in Chongqing, Shuangqiao District and Dazu County in Chongqing were abolished, and then the newly established administrative region of Dazu District in Chongqing was established.

Dazu is located in the west of Chongqing, 55 kilometers away from Chongqing in the east, 155 kilometers away from Chengdu in the west, Tongnan in the north, Tongliang in the northeast, Yongchuan in the southeast, Rongchang in the southwest, and Anyue County in Sichuan in the northwest. It will strive to be a demonstration zone for the construction of the double-city economic circle in the Chengdu-Chongqing region.

In 2021, Dazu District will achieve a GDP of 80.03 billion yuan, an increase of 10.3% over the previous year; Covering an area of 1436 square kilometers, it has jurisdiction over 6 streets and 21 towns, of which, Chongqing Shuangqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone has jurisdiction over 3 streets and 1 town, with a development area of 133 square kilometers. The municipal party committee and municipal government have dispatched the administrative committee of Shuangqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone at the level of main office to manage relevant economic construction and development. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, there are 835600 permanent residents in Dazu District. The urbanization rate of registered residence population is 48.1%.

Dazu District is dominated by automobiles and motorcycles, intelligent manufacturing, modern hardware, modern home furnishing, electronic information, and circular economy. It has successively won the first batch of national 5A scenic spots, national tourism and cultural counties, national ecological demonstration areas, national health counties, national garden counties, national greening model counties, national greening well-off counties, and the second batch of national comprehensive pilot areas of new urbanization.
