Dongyuan County is a county under the jurisdiction of Heyuan City, Guangdong Province. It is located in the northeast of the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and the middle and upper reaches of the Dongjiang River, with a total area of 4070 square kilometers and a total population of about 600000. It has jurisdiction over 21 towns and townships, belonging to the Hakka culture area, with a forest coverage rate of 74.37%. It is an important ecological barrier for the second largest county and northern ecological development area in Guangdong Province. Dongyuan is the first batch of "green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains" practice and innovation base in China. According to the data of the seventh population census in 2020, the permanent population of Dongyuan County is 348400.

The predecessor of Dongyuan County is the main body of the original Heyuan County. In 1993, Dongyuan County was established.
