Fuding City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, is under the jurisdiction of Ningde City. It is located in the northeast of Fujian Province, bordering the East China Sea in the southeast, Cangnan County in Zhejiang Province in the northeast, Taishun County in Zhejiang Province in the northwest, Zherong County in the west, and Xiapu County in the south. The land area is 1526.31 square kilometers, the sea area is 14959.7 square kilometers, and the coastline is 432.7 kilometers long. In ancient times, it belonged to Fuding County, Funing Prefecture, and was named after the Fuding Peak of Mount Taimu in its territory. As of 2016, Fuding City has jurisdiction over 16 townships, sub-district offices, 1 development zone and 281 village (residential) committees. It covers an area of 1542 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Fuding City was 553132.

There are 81 islands of all sizes in the Fuding Sea area, and Taishan Fishing Ground is the main fishing area. It belongs to the middle subtropical monsoon climate zone, with significant marine climate characteristics. Qinyu and Dianxia towns along the coast are the main grain areas of Fuding, and a high-yield demonstration area of 10000 mu of rice has been established. A large area of hilly land in mountainous areas can be used for afforestation, tea planting, fruit planting and other economic crops. In 2016, it was rated as the first batch of national agricultural product quality and safety counties. In 2017, Fuding was rated as "2016 China's tea industry development demonstration county". On December 13, 2018, it was selected into the list of advantageous areas of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics. In March 2019, it was listed as the first batch of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization areas and counties.

In 2020, Fuding City will achieve a GDP of 41.869 billion yuan.
