Genhe City, a county-level city in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is administered by Hulunbuir City. "Gen River" is a homonym of the Mongolian word "Gegen Gaole", meaning "clear and transparent river". It is located on the western slope of the northern section of the Greater Khingan Mountains, north of Hulunbuir City, with geographical coordinates of 120°12´ ~ 122°55´ e and 50°20´ ~ 52°30´ n. It is adjacent to Oroqen Autonomous Banner in the east, Ergguna City in the west, Yakeshi City in the south, and Mohe City and Huzhong District in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Heilongjiang Province in the north. The longest north-south linear distance is 240.4 kilometers, and the widest east-west linear distance is 198.8 kilometers, with a total area of 20,001 square kilometers. It is one of the cities with the highest latitude in China, with an annual average temperature of -5.3℃, an extreme low temperature of -58℃, and an annual freezing period of more than 210 days. It is the coldest city in China, known as "China's cold Pole".
In July 2019, it was selected as the pilot county (district) of the National Intellectual Property Strong County Project. According to the seventh census data, the permanent population of Genhe was 71,437 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.
In 2020, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Genhe reached 326.623 million yuan, down 0.6 percent year on year at comparable prices.
