Gongcheng Yao Autonomous County is affiliated to Guilin City of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It is located in the northeast of Guangxi and the southeast of Guilin City. It borders Fuchuan Yao Autonomous County and Jiangyong County of Hunan Province in the east, borders Zhongshan County and Pingle County in the south, borders Yangshuo County and Lingchuan County in the west, and borders Guanyang County in the north. According to the 7th census data, the permanent population of Gongcheng Yao Autonomous County was 245,432 as of midnight on November 1, 2020.

It is a subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by wet summer and dry winter, long summer and short winter, four distinct seasons, abundant light and heat, and abundant rainfall.

In December 2018, it was awarded the National Climate Symbol.
