Guangping County, under the jurisdiction of Handan City, Hebei Province, is located in the Heilonggang Basin of the Haihe River Plain at the eastern foot of Taihang Mountains in the south of Hebei Province, covering an area of 320 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 7 towns, 1 provincial economic development zone, and the county government is located in Guangping Town. By the end of 2021, the total population of the county is 313,375. In 2020, the county's GDP will be 9.34 billion yuan.

Today, Guangping County belongs to Wei before Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period, and to Wei before Zhao in the Warring States Period. The Qin Dynasty belonged to Hanlang Prefecture. During the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Wei County and Kuqiu County, both of which belonged to Wei County. During the Three Kingdoms Period, Guangping County and Wei County belonged to Wei. During the two Jin Dynasties, it belonged to Guangping County and Wei County respectively. It belonged to Xiangzhou in the Northern Wei Dynasty. In the Sui Dynasty, the north belonged to Qingzhang County of Wu'an County, the southwest belonged to Cheng'an County of Wei County, and the middle and southeast belonged to Wei County of Wuyang County. In the Tang Dynasty, the north belonged to Qingzhang County of Mingzhou, the southeast belonged to Wei County of Weizhou, and the southwest belonged to Cheng'an County of Xiangzhou. It belonged to Mingzhou during the Five Dynasties. During the Northern Song Dynasty, Wei County, Damingfu, East Hebei Road, was located in the middle, east and south, and Feixiang County, Mingzhou, West Hebei Road, was located in the north. In April of the second year of Jianyan of Song Dynasty and the sixth year of Jintianhui (1128), Jinbing broke Mingzhou. In October, Jinbing captured Song Daming Mansion. Guangping County has been a golden place since then.

In the seventh year of Jindading (1167), Guangping County was first established in Beibi District of Weixian County, which belongs to the Mingzhou of West Hebei Road. In 1993, Handan prefecture and city were merged into Handan City, and Guangping County was merged into Handan City from Handan area. Guangping County, with a temperate continental monsoon climate, is close to the Beijing Guangzhou and Beijing Kowloon railway trunk lines. National Highway 309, National Highway 230, Provincial Highway 313, Provincial Highway 347 and Hanji Railway run through the county, and Guangping Station is set up. In September 2018, the People's Government of Hebei Province issued a notice stating that 25 counties (cities and districts) including Guangping County were officially approved to withdraw from the poverty county sequence.

Guangping County is a national garden city, a national ecological construction demonstration county, a provincial civilized city, a provincial health county, a provincial forest city, and a Sino German ecological demonstration city.
