Hejian City, formerly known as Hejian and Yingzhou, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hebei Province. It is managed by Cangzhou City, bordering Cangxian County and Qingxian County in the east, Dacheng County and Renqiu City in the north, Suning County and Gaoyang County in the west, and Xian County in the south. It belongs to lacustrine alluvial plain. The terrain gradually decreases from southwest to northeast. It has a typical continental monsoon climate. Affected by the monsoon, it has four distinct seasons. By the end of 2015, it had jurisdiction over 20 townships and 615 administrative villages, with a total area of 1333 square kilometers and a total population of 882000. In October 1990, the county was removed and established as a city. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Hejian is 795198.
Hejian City, located in the North China Plain, is rich in a variety of grains, cotton, melons and fruits, especially famous for golden dates, Tianjin Yali, etc. There are many kinds of industrial products, including chemical industry, textile industry and cable industry, forming six pillar industries, mainly including wire and cable, thermal insulation materials, auto parts, building materials, flowers and tableware. In 2019, Hejian achieved a GDP of 2360908 million yuan.
In December 2019, it became a pilot unit for the construction of the national rural governance system. In September 2020, it was selected into the list of strong counties (cities and districts) in food industry in Hebei Province (cultivation type).
