Hengdong County, which belongs to Hengyang City of Hunan Province, is located in the south of eastern Hunan Province, between Hengyang Basin and Liquyou Basin in the middle reaches of Xiangjiang River. Youxian County is subjured to the east by Anren and Hengnan Counties on the south; the Xiangjiang River, 50 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, borders Hengshan County on the west and Lukou District on the north. The total area is 1926 square kilometers. With a forest coverage rate of 51%, the county is one of the "top 100 counties in National Afforestation". According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, Hengdong County permanent population of 565,423 people.

Known as "Home of Fish and Rice", "Home of Shadow puppetry", "Home of Flower Drum Opera", "Home of paper cutting" and "Home of seals", it is the only "county of Native cuisine" in Hunan Province by 2014.

In 2015, according to the township division adjustment plan of Hengdong County, adjusted after the jurisdiction of 2 townships 15 towns: Step village, pearl 2 townships and Chengguan town incorporated Mi Water Town. Wuji Town was established by merging Dezhen, Limu and Mojing townships with Wuji Town. Bridge Town, Sanzhang Township incorporated Sanzhang Town. Caotown and Gaotang Township incorporated to set up Caotown.

Epicycele township administrative division adjustment, Hengdong County withdraw a total of 7 township, now jurisdiction of two townships, Mi Water, Wu Ji, three Zhang, Cao City, Dapu, Xintang, Xia Flow, Ganxi, Yangqiao, Ronghuan, Pengyuan, Shiwan, White lotus, Yanglin, High Lake 15 towns. The People's Government of the County is located in Mi Water Town (the location of the original county People's Government). In 2020, Hengdong County achieved a gross regional product (GDP) of 29.081 billion yuan.
