Heping County, subordinate to Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the Jiulian Mountains in the northeast of Guangdong Province, the upper reaches of the Dongjiang River, and the border between Guangdong and Jiangxi. It covers an area of 2292.08 square kilometers and governs 17 towns. Yangming Town is the seat of Heping County. The terrain of the county is generally high in the northwest and low in the southeast. The Lijiang River flows into the Dongjiang River from Dongshui Town. By the end of 2020, there were 353900 permanent residents in Heping County.

In the 13th year of Zhengde in the Ming Dynasty (1518), Wang Shouren, the governor of the Southern Jiangxi Province, and the governor of the Southern Jiangxi Province, set up a peace county in the imperial court. Heping County is the first county of Beijing-Hong Kong High-speed Railway, Guangdong-Jiangxi Expressway, and Beijing-Kowloon Railway to enter Guangdong in the south. It is the central Soviet area county, the hometown of hot springs in China, the national key ecological function area, the national leisure agriculture and rural tourism demonstration county, the strong tourism county in Guangdong Province, the county-level civilized city in Guangdong Province, and the low-carbon development demonstration county in Guangdong Province.
