Hepu County is under the jurisdiction of Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, it was successively subordinate to Qinlian District of Guangdong Province (first in Beihai City and then in Qinzhou Town), Qinzhou District of Guangxi Province (Qinzhou Town and Lianzhou Town where it is governed), Hepu District of Guangdong Province (Lianzhou Town where it is governed), Qinzhou District of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Qinzhou Town where it is governed). It is located in the southern part of Guangxi, the northeast bank of Beihai Bay, bordering Lianjiang City of Guangdong Province and Bobai County of Guangxi Province in the east, Qinzhou City in the west, and Beibu Gulf in the south, between 108°51'-109°46' east longitude and 21°27'-21°55' north latitude. Lianzhou Town, the resident of the county government, is 176 kilometers away from Nanning City and 28 kilometers away from Beihai City. Hepu County has a total administrative area of 2762 square kilometers, with 14 towns and 1 township. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Hepu County was 864,193.

In 2020, the GDP of Hepu County reached 30.353 billion yuan, an increase of 3.2%; Fiscal revenue exceeded 2 billion yuan, up 15.4%.
Hepu County has hills in the north, sea in the south, red soil platform in the east, south and west, and alluvial plain in the middle. Climate is controlled by monsoon circulation, belongs to the subtropical Marine monsoon climate, rain and heat in the same season, dry winter and wet summer, summer without heat, winter without cold, is one of the "national plain greening advanced counties".

Hepu is one of the ports of origin of the Maritime Silk Road of the Han Dynasty in China. It boasts numerous historical and cultural relics of the Han Dynasty and abounds in agricultural products such as pearls, prawns, green crabs, sugarcane and sericulture, making it the "Hometown of Southern Pearls in China".
