Huating City, a county-level city administered by Pingliang City, Gansu Province, is located in the east of Gansu Province, at the intersection of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia provinces (regions). Huating Town was established in the second year of the Northern Wei Dynasty (532), and was named after the Huajian Mountain Pavilion at the foot of Huangfu Mountain. It has jurisdiction over 1 street, 7 towns, 3 townships, 101 administrative villages and 27 communities; The total area is 1183 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Huating City is 182449.

Huating, known as the "porcelain capital of the coal city", is the only place along the ancient Silk Road, the core area and important industrial town of the integrated industrial development of coal, electricity, chemicals and transportation in Gansu Province, one of the thirteen coal production bases in the country, one of the three coal production bases in the northwest, and an important energy supply and freight distribution base in Longdong. Huating Quzi Opera is the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in China. The Ankou Kiln in Ankou Town in the Ming Dynasty was listed as a famous kiln in China under the name of "Longshang Kiln". In September 2017, Huating was awarded the National Advanced Collective of Mass Sports.

In 2021, Huating City will achieve a GDP of 7.9 billion yuan. On January 25, 2019, Huating was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" demonstration county in 2018.

On April 28, 2019, the Gansu Provincial Government approved Huating City to officially withdraw from the poverty-stricken counties.
