Huili, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, was called Huiwu and Huichuan in ancient times. It was named after "the merging of the original Sichuan and the eulogization of the political peace". Huili is located in the southernmost part of Sichuan Province, in the heart of Panxi, with a total area of 4527 square kilometers. By June 2020, Huili County has jurisdiction over 3 streets, 13 towns and 4 townships. Huili County was established in the sixth year of Yuanding in the Western Han Dynasty (111 BC), and was successively the territory of the county, government, road, defense and state. It was removed from the county and established as a city in 2021. It is a national historical and cultural city. The integration of ancient city culture, red culture, pomegranate culture, and Sichuan-Yunnan culture forms the cultural heritage of Huili. Huili is rich in resources, rich in mineral resources, land resources, light and heat resources and tourism resources, and is known as the "treasure bowl of Panxi".
Huili has always been an important military and economic town at the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, as well as a distribution center for business and tourist supplies of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. The ancient Southern Silk Road runs more than 100 kilometers from the city to the south, passing through 44 towns. The old county seat of Huili is an important post station of the ancient road, known as the "key of Sichuan and Yunnan".
In 2021, Huili City will achieve a gross regional product (GDP) of 20.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.5% at comparable prices (the same below), and an annual growth of 8.6% for two years, ranking the first in the prefecture.
