Hukou County, subordinate to Jiujiang City of Jiangxi Province, is located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province, the eastern part of Jiujiang City, the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the north bank of Poyang Lake, and the junction of Jiangxi, Anhui and Hubei provinces. It is located between 29° 30' -29 °51' north latitude and 116°8'-116°25' east longitude. Hukou County covers an area of 669 square kilometers, bordering Pengze County in the east, Duchang County in the south, Lianxi District, Chaisang District and Lushan City across Poyang Lake in the west, and Jin Yangtze River in Susong County, Anqing City, Anhui Province in the north. Hukou County is a subtropical monsoon climate zone, rich in heat, abundant rainfall, four distinct seasons. As of 2018, Hukou County has jurisdiction over 6 townships, 6 towns and 2 towns, with Shuangzhong Town as the county government residence.

Located at the junction of Hubei, Anhui and Jiangxi provinces, it is named after the junction of Yangtze River and Poyang Lake. It is known as the "North Gate of Jiangxi on the Water" and known as the "key of rivers and lakes and the thoroughfare of three provinces". Relying on famous rivers, lakes, mountains and cities, it has established the leading and central position of water tourism in Poyang Lake, forming a "two-day tour" pattern. In 2021, the registered population of Hukou County is 289,900, and the permanent population is 222,100.

Song Dynasty (420-479), set up Hukou Shu, still under Pengze County. The Southern Tang Dynasty Shengyuan two years (938), analysis of Pengze County Pengze Township and five Liu Township half of Hukou County, county administration of Xiaoyang Town (now southwest of Shuangzhong Town), under the Fenghua Army. In August 1983, Jiujiang prefectural city was merged into Jiujiang City, Hukou County under Jiujiang City.
In 2021, the GDP of Hukou County was 28.31 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9% over the previous year based on comparable prices. The value added of the primary industry was 1.732 billion yuan, up by 6.8%. The value added of the secondary industry was 19.82 billion yuan, and that of the tertiary industry was 7.297 billion yuan. The ratio of three industrial structures is 6.1:1 68.1:1 25.8.
