Huli District, affiliated to Xiamen City of Fujian Province, is the center of Xiamen City, located in the north of Xiamen Island, surrounded by sea on three sides, facing Kinmen Island across the sea, and bordering Siming District in the south. It has a land area of 72.26 square kilometers and a coastline of 30 kilometers. It has jurisdiction over 5 streets.
Huli District, founded in November 1987, is the birthplace of Xiamen Special Zone. In 1980, The State Council approved the establishment of Xiamen Special Economic Zone within 2.5 square kilometers of the lake. Huli District is the center of the national information technology industry base, the container throughput ranks the sixth in China, is one of the top ten ports in China, and is an important hub of Xiamen Island's external traffic.
