Jianhe County is located in the southeast of Guizhou Province and the central part of southeast Guizhou. It is adjacent to Tianzhu County and Jinping County in the east, Liping County and Rongjiang County in the south, Leishan County and Taijiang County in the west, and Shibing County, Zhenyuan County and Sansui County in the north. It is 294 kilometers away from Guiyang, the provincial capital, and 98 kilometers away from Kaili, the state capital.
