Jianyang, a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Sichuan Province, is administered by Chengdu City. Located in the west of Sichuan Basin, at the eastern foot of Longquan Mountain and in the middle reaches of Tuojiang River, Jianyang is known as "Tianfuxiong Prefecture" and "East Gate of Shu Capital" since ancient times. Jianyang is adjacent to Jintang County, Longquanyi District and Tianfu New District in the north, Lezhi County in Ziyang City in the east, Yanjiang District in Ziyang City in the south, and Renshou County in Meishan City in the west. As of October 2021, it has jurisdiction over 16 subdistricts and 21 towns; People's government in Hong Ba Street People's Road 6. The jurisdiction covers an area of 2213 square kilometers. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, Jianyang's permanent population was 738,169.

In May 2016, approved by The State Council and Sichuan Provincial People's Government, Jianyang City was placed under the administration of Chengdu City. On January 26, 2022, Jianyang City was selected by the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Sichuan Provincial People's Government as the county (city, district) of Sichuan Province with remarkable achievements in rural revitalization in 2021. In May 2022, Jianyang was awarded the title of the May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee of Chengdu.
In 2021, the GDP of Jianyang City reached 62.009 billion yuan, an increase of 8.0%.
