Jinghong City

Jinghong City, subordinate to Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, is located in the south of Yunnan Province and the middle of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, between 100 ° 25 '- 101 ° 31' E and 21 ° 27 '- 22 ° 36' N. It is adjacent to Jiangcheng County and Mengla County in the east, Menghai County and Lancang County in the west, Pu'er City in the north, Myanmar in the south, Laos and Thailand in the south, with a border length of 112.39 kilometers and a land area of 6867 square kilometers. As of June 2021, the permanent resident population of Jinghong City is 642737.

In the Western Han Dynasty, it was a mourning prison. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, it belonged to Nanfu County. The Tang and Song Dynasties were under the jurisdiction of the local regime "Nanzhao" and "Dali". On July 22, 1957, it was merged into the county level Banna Jinghong. On December 22, 1993, the county was abolished and the city was established. Jinghong, which means "the city of dawn" in Dai language, is a multi-ethnic frontier area with Dai as the main body. Known as Jingyong and Jinglong in ancient times, and Cheli and Cheri in old times, it is the capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and the political, economic and cultural center of the whole prefecture. As of October 2021, Jinghong City has jurisdiction over 7 towns, 5 townships, and 8 other township units. The municipal government is located at Galan Middle Road, Jinghong City, Yunnan Province.
