Jingning County, subordinate to Pingliang City, Gansu Province, is located in the middle of Gansu Province, west of Liupan Mountain, east of Huajialing, east and north of Longde and Xiji counties in Ningxia, west and south of Tongwei and Qin'an counties, northwest of Huining County, and southeast of Zhuanglang County. Jingning County has a warm temperate semi-humid and semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons, mild climate, sufficient sunshine, more precipitation in summer and less in winter and spring. The total area is 2193 square kilometers. As of May 25, 2021, the total population is 478400.

The name of Jingning began in the Yuan Dynasty, when Jingning Prefecture was established. It followed the first word of "Jingbian Village" in the Song and Jin dynasties, and took the meaning of peace and tranquility. In the fifteenth year of the Republic of China (1926), it was directly subordinate to Gansu Province. In June 2002, Pingliang District was changed into a prefecture-level Pingliang City, and Jingning County was under the jurisdiction of Pingliang City. Jingning County is an important town on the middle line of the eastern section of the ancient Silk Road, the birthplace of Fuxi, the founder of humanity, and a major agricultural county. In December 2018, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs identified it as the second batch of agricultural products with Chinese characteristics. As of October 2021, Jingning County has jurisdiction over 1 street, 17 towns and 7 townships. The county people's government is located in Chengguan Town.
