Jinning county/District, subordinate to Kunming City, Yunnan Province, is located in the central part of Yunnan Province, in the southwest of Kunming City, surrounded by Dianchi Lake, bordered by Xishan District in the west, Chenggong District in the north, and bordered by Hongta District and Jiangchuan District of Yuxi City in the south and east respectively. It is an important part of the core urban area of Kunming. By 2022, Jinning District has jurisdiction over 3 towns, 2 townships and 3 streets, with an administrative area of 1336 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh population census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Jinning District was 346268.

Jinning, the capital of ancient Yunnan and the hometown of Zheng He, is one of the four major phosphorus capitals in the world, and ranks first in China's "Sanyang Phosphate Mine" (Kunyang, Kaiyang, Xiangyang). Located in the core hinterland of the "Central Yunnan Economic Circle" and the south gate of Kunming to South Asia and Southeast Asia, it has successively won the honorary title of "2014's Most Beautiful Chinese Tourist Destination City", "2016's Top 100 Deep Breathing Cities", "2016's Most Beautiful County in China", and "China's Top 10 Summer Leisure Counties" for two consecutive times. In October 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 national science and technology innovation zones in 2018. On January 25, 2019, it was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" demonstration county in 2018. In November 2019, it was selected as the second batch of counties (districts) that met the standard for building a water-saving society.

In 2021, Jinning District's gross regional product (GDP) will reach 20.51 billion yuan, an increase of 1.1% over the previous year at constant prices, and the annual per capita GDP will reach 59123 yuan.
