Kaili City, abbreviated as "Kai". It is the prefecture-level administrative capital of Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture, located in the east of Guizhou Province, China. It is one of the major central cities of Guizhou Province. "Kaili" is a transliteration of Miao language, which means "the field of the Mu Lao people". Miao language calls the Mu Lao people as "Kai", the field as "Li", and "Kaili" is "the place where the Mu Lao people field". By 2021, the city has jurisdiction over 11 towns and 9 streets, covering an area of 1,569.69 square kilometers and an urban planning area of 792 square kilometers. Ethnic minorities account for 81.6% of the registered population. It is an emerging city dominated by the Miao nationality and inhabited by many ethnic groups, and is known as the "pearl of the Miao Nationality".
