Lechang City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Guangdong Province, is managed by Shaoguan City. Lechang City is located in the north of Shaoguan City, adjacent to Yizhang County and Rucheng County of Hunan Province, known as the "North Gate of Guangdong", with a total area of 2419 square kilometers, ranking first in terms of area and population. By the end of 2021, Lechang has a registered residence population of 525900. As of October 2021, Lechang has 1 street and 16 towns under its jurisdiction. The municipal government is located in Lecheng Street.
Lechang has a history of more than 1500 years, and is known as "Tuo City for a thousand years". Lianghua County was established in the seventh year (508) of Liang Tianjian in the Southern Dynasty, and renamed Lechang County in the eighteenth year (598) of Kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty because of the presence of Leshi and Changshan mountains in the territory. In 1994, the county was withdrawn and established as a city (county level). In terms of Lechang traditional culture, Lechang Huagu Opera, Lechang Yugu Opera, Jiufeng Folk Song and (lion dance) Frog and Lion were listed in the list of provincial intangible cultural heritage protection projects. Lechang has Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway, Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, Lezhou-Guangzhou Expressway, and Provincial Highway 248 running through the territory. The Wuhan-Guangzhou High-speed Railway has Lechang East Station.
In 2021, Lechang's gross regional product (preliminary calculation) will be 13.771 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 9.5% and an average increase of 6.3% in two years.
