Lingchuan County, subordinate to Jincheng City of Shanxi Province, is located in the southeast of Shanxi Province, adjacent to Gaoping in the west, Zezhou County in the southwest, Huguan and Changzhi in the north, Huixian City and Xiuwu County in Henan Province in the east and south, and is the gateway to the southeast of Shanxi Province. The county covers a total area of 1751 square kilometers. Most areas are between 1200 and 1600 meters above sea level, with the highest reaching 1796.2 meters above sea level and the lowest 628 meters above sea level. The stony mountain area accounts for 43.9% of the total area of the county. It has jurisdiction over 7 towns and 4 townships, 312 administrative villages and 7 communities. According to the seventh census, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Lingchuan county was 204,825.

Lingchuan has a long history and profound cultural accumulation. The ancient region for Yao, Shun tribes, is the origin of the world Go. Since the establishment of the county by Kai Huang in Sui Dynasty (AD 596), there have been 7 champions and 93 scholars in history. Hao Jing, a native of Lingchuan, was an outstanding politician, diplomat and historian in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. He wrote works such as The Sequel to the Later Han Dynasty and The Biography of the Spring and Autumn Annals.

On September 7, 2018, the Shanxi Provincial government officially approved Lingchuan County's withdrawal from the "poverty-stricken county" designation and announced it to the public. On December 31, 2019, it was selected as a national typical county for rural innovation and entrepreneurship.
In 2020, the GDP of Lingchuan County reached 4.86 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 7.5%.
